Arguably the secret highlight of Electric's trio of singles, 'Wild Flower' more than the rest really was a reduction on the part of producer Rick Rubin, taking the band down to total bloody-minded groove. If anything was an AC/DC tribute on that album, it was this, embracing the opening four-note riff Billy Duffy whipped up and almost never letting go throughout, so tightly wound it's a wonder nothing broke. Les Warner's drums aim to bust eardrums in its Phil Rudd-like simplicity (though he adds just enough flair here and there for variety on the chorus), while Ian Astbury, interestingly, spends a good chunk of the song purring through the mix instead of his expected strong projection. It's a contrast that works very well, especially since Astbury doesn't ever sound like he's slurring or hiding his words, while when Duffy finally lets loose with a blow-down-the-walls solo, the impact is even bigger than might be guessed. Add in Jamie Stewart's shuddering bass work as the kicker, and godhead once again was achieved.
