The Hurd's design consists of a set of protocols and server processes (or daemons, in Unix terminology) that run on the GNU Mach microkernel. The Hurd aims to surpass the Unix kernel in functionality, security, and stability, while remaining largely compatible with it. The herd switched to OS X from rival operating systems over an extended period. And part of this (a big part, according to many programmers) was when Apple released OS X. For the last 15 years.

Do the MiniStation devices work with Mac OS?
Yes, all MiniStation devices support Mac OS X. However, many components of Buffalo Tools may not work in Mac OS. By default MiniStation is formatted for use in Windows. It requires formatting by Mac OS by using Mac's included 'Disk Utility' software (Inside the Utilities folders in Applications). Also, there is 3rd party software for Mac OS that allows Mac to support NTFS.
