Desktop client for the itch.io platform that offers you the possibility to browse your games collections outside the browser, and simplifies the installation procedure
What's new in itch 25.4.1:
- Upgrade to Electron 10.0.0
- Upgrade to Chromium 85.0.4183.84
- Security and performance fixes
- Show upload platform icons in 'Plan install'
itch.io is a platform on which indie developers can host or sell their games, while regular users get to download or purchase new titles.
The itch macOS application provides a desktop environment where you can browse the games collections associated with your account and manage the downloads without cluttering your web browser.
Connect to your itch.io account and browse your games collections
To be able to use the itch app, you must start by registering for an itch.io account free of charge. Once you log in via the itch main window, you will be able to browse your games library, to see the installed titles, your collections, and so on.
By default, itch comes with two predefined collections: Bite-sized gems and Early 2016 Picks. However, it will also sync with your account, and offers you the possibility to install any game included in your collections on the current machine with a single click.
Install games hosted on itch.io with a mouse click
Note that itch does not provide support for browsing the entire collection of games hosted on itch.io: you still have to navigate the website in your browser and add titles to your collections. Nonetheless, itch will greatly streamline the installation procedure for the games.
Moreover, itch also offers you the possibility to quickly launch the games: by default, the utility installs the games in your Library folder, so going through the app to start them is preferable.
Desktop client for the itch.io platform that works in tandem with a web browser
Within the itch user interface you can also choose to donate or purchase items for a certain project, but you need to open the project page in your browser to be able to rate it.
To sum up, itch is a beautiful desktop client for the itch.io platform that streamlines the installation and the launch process for games included in your collections, yet you still need to navigate the platform via a web browser to have access to all functions.
